I love this. I recently moved back to rural Iowa after 15+ years in San Francisco, and the "water department" (one guy) in my hometown witches for old water lines when he can't find them on the city's plans. Writing really does feel like a metaphysical act of revealing something we sense, unconsciously, but can't see. Thank you for writing this!

As an Iowan and a San Franciscan, I love this story, Sara. I now want to come back and write a feature on your town's local dowser. I used to write for the Register. If I did now, I'd write that story. Thanks so much for reading and sharing, and best of luck with your dowsing!

I can't remember where I read this or who said it: writing is like trying to capture a dream - it always seems just on the edge of our consciousness. This is what it feels like for me.

That's such a lovely image, Mary. Thanks so much for sharing it. Capturing a dream seems very much akin to divining.

I greatly enjoyed this blog, Grant! You are speaking to not just my writing sensibilities, but to my love of magic and to my calling. Because of my curiosity of where creativity comes from, I completed a masters program in Depth Psychology and Creativity at Pacifica Graduate Institute. The school re-introduced me to Labyrinth Walking, something that I had treated as a past not as a serious part of my invocation. That changed last year and I am now building my practice (and my brand) around the Labyrinth. It has been really interesting to see where topics and people I have met on my journey intersect with my calling. Thank you for this. :D

Oh, thanks so much for your comments, Jennifer—and the connection to Labyrinth Walking! How cool that this is part of your process, and a way to go deep. I'll have to read more about it.

You are so welcome, Grant! I have an article that I just wrote about my experiences with the Labyrinth that I am going to shop around for publication. There is an entire movement dedicated to the walking, creating, and maintaining of Labyrinths across the world. It's almost 30 years old. As someone who loves Labyrinths and would make a point to walk ones that I find, I had never even heard of the movement (or World Labyrinth Day! The first Saturday in May) until last year I searched the right keywords and I got introduced to the work of Rev. Dr. Lauren Artress.
