I’ve been writing about heavy subjects of late, so I decided to have a little fun this week.
Fun as in a “creative type” test. Essentially a Meyers-Briggs test to tell you what your creative essence is.
The 15-question Creative Type Test, developed by Adobe Create, assesses your habits and tendencies—how you think, how you act, how you see the world—to help you better understand who you are as a creator.
Warning: These personality types aren’t meant to be black-and-white labels. Like any personality test, it’s frustrating, because the questions don’t allow for any gray areas. Also, one core type might best describe you, but you may change types in different situations or at different points in your life, or even at different stages of the creative process.
And … most of us have a little bit of all eight types inside of ourselves. In fact, in some ways, the eight types all seem like variations of a theme rather than distinct types.
Here are the eight Creative Types:
The Artist: Brings ideas and concepts to life
The Thinker: Has intellectual curiosity and finds and creates meaning
The Adventurer: Has high levels of creative energy and a spirit of curiosity and play
The Maker: Focuses and is dedicated, and achieves mastery
The Producer: Is people-oriented, analytical, pragmatic, and dynamic
The Dreamer: Has a connection to emotions and imagination, empathy, and sensitivity
The Innovator: Is an innovator
The Visionary: Is emotional, passion-driven, and full of ideas
My type
I tested as The Dreamer. “The world is a place of beauty and magic in the eyes of a DREAMER. Where others see facts and figures, you see symbols, metaphors, and hidden meanings.”
I’m told to think of myself as the “magical realist” of the creative types. “Like the literary masters of that genre, you naturally infuse your everyday life with the beauty and wonder of the imagination.”
Creative Strengths: Connection to emotions and imagination, empathy and sensitivity.
Untapped Potential: Using dreams to fuel real-world action.
Ideal Collaborator: The Innovator, because my greatest challenge is learning to balance dreaming with disciplined action, so I need someone to help me implement my dreams because they can combine my lofty idealism with a focus on pragmatic solutions.
It’s true, one key thing I know about myself is that when an idea for a new venture strikes me, I like to find a partner to help me bring it to life.
Now it’s your turn: Take the test.
Because a quote
“The standard personality type for a writer is a shy megalomaniac."

Innovator. If people were prepared to do this ahead of time (bring their phones) you could do this exercise as part of a class in OWR if you come again next year. Then talk about and share the value of different creativity types. That would be fun.
Deep thinker here. Spot on. This was fascinating. Thanks for posting it!
